For the New Year

22:50 Dec 31 2012
Times Read: 623

I was wondering the other day, and I decided to put this in words, and see just who popped up and actually answered.

since it is about to be the New Year, some sooner than others, I was wondering:

Who are the three top people you talk to on Vampire Rave and why? And I don't mean friends or family that you know in the "real" world, and talked into joining (pay attention, Kentucky gals...lol).

I mean people you met here in whatever fashion, and decided that they deserved your attention, so you struck up a conversation that has turned into a solid friendship.

And don't forget the reasons why you started talking to them in the first place.

Thanks in advance for facilitating this little project of mine...lol

I shall take this one on...

My 3 people are simple...

1)SanguineOrder

2)LadyXblackXRose

3)MoonSong

SanguineOrder (though his name has now changed) because his wit and intelligence still leave me with a smile on my face to this day...He is my level head in things and is never afraid to remind me that I am being a bitch or that I am doing something stupid. And he is always there,no matter what, to remind me that I can accomplish what I set my mind to...and that he is there for me when I need him...

LadyXblackXRose, because she has a way of making me laugh no matter how bad things are...and she reminds me that though we are far away we still go through the same things as Mothers...She is always an ear for me as I am for her,no matter what in the end...Not to mention she will always be my Hunting Partner 'til the end!!!...

And MoonSong, because we are from the same state, though have yet to meet,we are alike in many, many ways and we just clicked from the very beginning...She has shared my pain and my happiness just as I have hers and we will always be that way...She has my heart and she knows it...Besides...we're Southern Redheads...We can only deal with one another....lol

I love and adore all 3 of these people very much...And that will never change...

Hmmm...it seems my three are lead to me by reading the journals.

RedQueen- for that southern tilt she has. ;)

Morrigon - for her artwork

Joli- her poems.

There are so many more but you only asked for three. While I don't 'talk' to these ladies I watch for anything they post, which is how I found them to start with.

I have not been here long enough to have acquired a "top three" anything. But I am surprised to read the word "solid" with all it's implications, within the context of a virtual reality. Surprised, and dare I admit....perhaps even a bit encouraged.

Time always tells. :)

Since the other two KY gals are barred...grins...it would have to be:

You RedQueen - becuase it seems you are the other "soul sister" and have the same Southern values.

Meeper - Not very often - but more than most. She too has the KY connection and understands the importance of the Wildcats. :)

Emmy - Again not very often but the odd notes. She is just ..encouraging.

After weeks of taking my lunch to work and cooking at home at night, my beloved husband offered to take me to the Keg Steakhouse last Saturday for dinner. He is such a sweety. I also asked him if we could start a tradition that my parents had of picking one ornament each year to build our stash for the tree. When I first got here, we had the time, but not the money. Then, when I finally went back to work, we had the money but not the time. Now we have both, thank God. So he agreed, and after a couple of false starts, we ended up at one of the nurseries in Langley that does a HUGE Christmas thing every year, with every possible ornament you could possibly want. We picked up some black and silver ones (Goth to the end, aren't we...) Then I found a dragon for Scott, and he found a little red headed pixie holding a dragon for me (how presious is this going to get, I ask you) and then he wandered off. I was trying to find one more string of lights because I had had noluck anywhere else, when Scott walked up with 4 boxes in his hand.

Years ago, my grandfather had converted a hurricane lantern to electricity, but instead of a regular light bulb, he had put in one of those bulbs that looks like a candle flame. I would go to sleep at their house with that lantern as my night light, and while I now have that lantern, I don't have the bulb for it anymore. I had mentioned this to Scott when I unpacked my stuff in the house.

Here stands Scott, with FOUR boxes of Christmas tree lights that are ALL those flickering candle light bulbs.

I wanted to cry, but he said if I ruined my makeup he wouldn't take me to dinner ....lol

And then what do I do? I boogah-boogahed in the car.

And Tuesday and Wednesday it snowed like hell up here.

I is such a bad puppy...lol

Yes. I am an evil bitch. And at times like these, I revel in it.....

Diane and I have been playing phone tag for a week. What with it being Christmas party season at Westwood, where I used to work (for those of you who don't keep up with my journal, that would be March 2008-September 2012) and Christmas gift making at my new job at the pottery studio, we don't see as much of each other as we used to, but whenever we have a Tuesday off together, it's date night (dinner and a movie).

When Scott came up to have lunch with me on Sunday, he handed me the phone and said I had a message from Diane. It basically said she had Tuesday off (YAY!) and that she had something she HAD to tell me. I'm thinking she got promoted, or someone else was leaving as I did, but I would call her when I got home. No such luck- she was at work and didn't get home until WELL past my now bedtime. So yesterday, when I had a slow mo at work, I gave her a call at home, and she was indeed home this time.

Now, for those of you again, who haven't been keeping up, there were several people who were the bane of my existence at Westwood before I left, and the primary reason WHY I left. The trio of idiots that formed our management staff headed the list, but a few steps down was a guy named Dawar.

He started as a server, then worked his way into being trained as a bartender, and yes, I did the training, just like I did for all the new bartenders. After that, he acte3d like he was my number one fan and confidante, best friend, and go to pal in all of Westwoodland....

Yeah. So I missed one. Sue me.

Then he got trained up to supervisor, along with two others, but was still bartending, and we hired a couple of new supervisors from outside.

After our newest round of supervisors were put into place, we were all sent a request to email the management, and tell them the three best things and the three worst things about them, completely confidential, of course o-o

My ass. Everybody else had the good sense to say the same thing...."Oh they are wonderful, do a great job, wouldn't change a thing!"

Yeah, ya'll know me. Honesty is next to everything for me. And I am not one to mince words, in case there might be ANY misunderstanding. And I told them that Dawar had been a slacker when he was a bartender, and he was carrying on the same traits as a supervisor.

and I was right.

And they let Dawar read the letter I had sent in.

Shorly after that, I let them know that Dawar was playing fast and loose with not just the liquor, but the money as well. SEVERAL times. I was met with the same stony looks, and nothing got done.

However, Dawar, knowing full well that I not only knew what he was up to, but had gone to them about it, managed to cue up the other girls who worshipped his body, and got them to land behind him, and eventually Kim and Jaime did what they did to get me suspended.

Not a nice thing to do to someone, I must say. But in all fairness, it got me out of a nighmarish job, and into one that not only makes me more money, but that I absolutely adore, and love the people I work with.

So I'm on the phone with Diane while I was at work yesterday, and she keeps saying she absolutely can't wait to see me on Tuesday, since we both have the day off, to tell me what has happened now. So I tell her, just tell me, and we'll work the rest of it out on Tuesday.

She literally hollers into the phone:

"DAWAR GOT FIRED!!!!!!"

The insane noise I made from the office was enough to bring Natasha running to see if I was ok, and I waved her off with a quick "I'm fine".

Apparently, Dawar had failed to pay attention to the cameras that they put everywhere, and they had caught him, on film, selling drinks and pocketing the money.

When confronted in the office with the tape, he was given two choices:

Confess, and get fired

Explain the tape to the police, and get fired.

He picked the first, and exited, toot sweet. Smart boy, yeah?

And all the times I went to them, and told them what was going on?

I feel fully justified in what I am about to say.

I told you so.

The only thing I can think of that would make this complete, would be the upper management calling you to ask if you would consider coming back. I can almost picture the insane joy on your face as you asked them why, and hear the sadistic glee in your voice as you vent your spleen and tell them what you've always wanted to......

Oops. Sorry. That's one of my dreams. Never mind.

I do indeed go, and go I did- I have crowed about that to the girls at work, and to my beloved husband till I am blue in the face.

I was never able to write anything in people's files, because I wasn't "qualified" nor was I "upper management". I did, however, give Diane a message to send to the chefs who told her, and to the head man in charge:

I told Tristan, Kristy, and Kat 6 MONTHS ago that Dawar was playing fast and loose with their shit. And nothing got done. So I hope that Chef Ng appreciates all the money he lost because his management team was more intent in getting rid of me, than curbing a thief.

Not only that, but they fired him just before a big Christmas party, and wonder of wonders, despite the fact that all three management personnel had worked as bartenders, not a SINGLE ONE stepped up and took the shift. Kristy was hell bent on stealing shifts from all the bartenders LAST Christmas, but NOW?

Oh HELL no.

And god help me, OB, if they ever call, the heavens will rock with my response.

This has been a long time coming

Mostly because everytime I think about it, I get absolutely furious. Looks like Lord Fangor and I have something in common. Mostly, ex spouses.

Back in November, I called to talk to Connor, my son. For those of you who don't know, Connor lives with his Dad in Florida. For those of you about to wage war on that particular issue, don't bother. I had my reasons, they were sound reasons, and that is all I'm going to say about that.

Anyway, I tried to call on a Saturday, which is my day off. Nobody answered, and Jim has long since set the answering machine not to answer till after a dozen rings, and even if I do leave a message to let Connor call, he never lets him do it, so why bother. And apparently, Jim has bought himself a race car, and is racing on weekends, which means Connor is either with him in Moultrie, or with a friend for the day.

Neither of which gives me access to my son.

So I tried to call again, the Tuesday before Thankgsiving. And I waited until well past when Jim would have come home from work.

Still no answer.

Same thing the following Saturday, and the following Tuesday. Now the week of Thanksgiving I figured he might have gone to his parents' place in Tennessee for the holidays, and just didn't bother to tell me, since that is usually the stunt he pulls, and I didn't want there to be a fight on the phone while they were there.

But it took 3 weeks for me to finally get ahold of Jim and ask to talk to Connor.

"He's at Alexander's playing. He'll be home in an hour or so."

So I called back and Connor answered the phone. So

we're talking along, having a good time, and I told him I had tried to call, but he must have been in Tennessee, which they were, and he said that was ok, but had he told me he had been in the hospital?

0_0

insert frightened pause here.

Um, no, you didn't. Are you ok? Did you hurt yourself?

What ensued after that can only be described as a complete nightmare for me. The only thing I can cable together from the half ass shit I got from Jim, and the vague kid stuff I got from Connor was enough to send me over the top.

Seems Connor was at school, and started crying. When asked why he was crying he said he missed his uncle, who had died a couple of weeks ago. Thing is, this particular uncle had passed away 2 years ago, not two weeks ago. After that, Connor said something else to the teacher, although he couldn't say what to me, and that is when the glorious school board of Quincy Florida decided that it was more in charge of our son than Jim was. Instead of calling him at work and telling him there was a problem, the school decided that Connor needed medical attention.

They put my son in the psych ward at the hospital.

This was Friday afternoon, and it was 5:30, when Jim was on his way to pick up Connor like he normally would, that they called him after the fact. And since it was Friday, and after 5, they KEPT my son in that place for 3 DAYS.

Does Jim call me? No.

Does he email me? No.

After talking to Connor for a bit longer, I told him to give the phone to his dad, and when Jim answered, I told him to go someplace where Connor couldn't hear him talking. Then I royally chewed his ass out for not telling me anyof the numerous times he had about what happened. His response?

I didn't have your phone number.

Which of course is utter and total bullshit, since I made sure he had it from the moment I left, just in case there was an EMERGENCY he could get ahold of me. I even gave him my inlaws' number as well. And on top of all that, it is IN HIS PHONE from all the times I called Connor. AND he has my email. So he had no excuse not to call me, and I told him so.

Then I asked him what he was going to do about this.

Nothing. Not gonna get a lawyer, not gonna take them to court, not going to put him in another school, not going to do ANYTHING.

He. is worse than useless. But only where I am concerned. He would go out of his way to do shit to piss me off, because he can, and he knows it. So I told him I wanted to make sure he and Connor understood that Connor can call me anytime. I would take care of the phone bill one way or the other, but I wanted Connor to know he could pick up the phone

and call me if he needed me. Jim's response?

"I'm not really comfortable with that"

Know what? I don't really give a DAMN what you are comfortable with anymore. You had your chance to have a civil reltionship with me for Connor's sake, to interact with me like an adult so we could do things for and with Connor so he wouldn't be affected by our shit, and you fucking blew it. You don't get that option of not being comfortable with jack shit anymore. I even asked him point blank about the racecar business and if he had a girlfriend. I told him I didn't give a rat's ass (sorry, Kay) if he had a fleet of cars and a harem, as long as whoever she was, she was good to him and Connor. But that did NOT give him the right to exclude me from things like this. EVER. AND I made sure I gave him my phone number AGAIN, which he probably didn't even bother to write down.

So I made sure Connor wrote down my number and put it somewhere safe, and I told him if he needed to call me anytime to do so. That I would handle his dad, and that I would be down in March, and we could talk about this more then.

From the round about shit from Jim and the half truths from Connor, what I got was this: That Connor had been in a fight the week before this, and gotten busted. That most likely he had done something that day that was going to get him busted. That my son, bless his heart, has hit puberty at 12, and is going through all the ensuing hormonal crap that goes along with that. That when he knew he was going to get busted, he started crying over his uncle, and most likely said something drama queen like he didn't want to live, or something along those lines.

In this day and age, schools are worse than anything I have ever seen when it comes to covering their asses over things like this. And the school, in it's infinite

wisdom, decided that slapping my son in a psych ward, without so much as a phone call to Jim, was the best way to handle the situation, to cover their own asses. And of course, the doctors were quick to determine that Connor was no danger to himself or to others, and he was out on Monday. That does not undo the damage these people have done to my son, or the trust he and we had in them. Connor now sees a therapist once a week, and he's fine.

I, on the other hand, managed to have a calm conversation with Jim about what an asshole he was, how this was NOT going to happen again, and then talk to Connor again, calmly and happily, to make sure he was ok, and then I got off the phone.

When Scott got to me, I was in the middle of a full blown fit. It took him a good hour to calm me down, find out what happened, and calm me down again.

And people back home wonder how I could have divorced such a wonderful man.

I think I would have to call the school myself and ask them what the hell they thought they were doing to stick a young kid in a mental ward for a weekend without first talking to his guardian. You may not be the custodial parent but you still have parental rights to ask why they made this decision.

Isis101
Isis101
22:52 Dec 17 2012

Wow, Red...

I can see why you are so upset. What the school did was awful, but a part of it may have to do with Jim's apparently oblivious reactions to anything regarding your son.

Elemental
Elemental
23:35 Dec 17 2012

I am not sure about Florida state law, but in KY an adolescent under the age of 16 cannot be admitted to a psych unit without parental/guardian approval. Schools would make referrals to us, but either the parent or social service worker who had emergency guardianship had to be the ones to sign the child in. No ifs ands or buts on that. Keeping someone from Friday to Monday is essentially an emergency hold becuase the courts are shut down.

I would think there would be a case if you wanted to pursue it. But the other side of this is that at least the school officials were paying attention to what he was doing/saying, if way over the line in response. But then, they may have tried to contact Jim....but they had to deal with it in some form before school was closed.

If he does need therapy, now is better than later. And, that goes for you to Puppy..I have nothing but free time right now if you want to skype or something. :)
